Gold Coast City defender Eoghan Murphy says he is happy with his side’s early season form ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brisbane Strikers.
City are chasing a fourth straight win when they host Strikers - another of the season’s early frontrunners in their PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues clash at Sports Super Centre.
City sit second on the league table after four rounds with only goal difference separating them from league leaders Olympic FC, while Strikers are two points behind in third position.
Murphy is hopeful his side can continue their strong run of form against Strikers.
“We’re happy with how we’ve gone, obviously we would’ve liked to get at least a draw in tough conditions in the first round but we’ve bounced back the last three games, so hopefully we can get another three points this week,” Murphy said.
While Murphy admits his respect for Strikers, he believes his side should fear no one.
“They’re a good team, there’s a few good teams in this competition, but I don’t think there’s anyone out there that we’d look at and go that’s going to be a hard, they might beat us.”
“I think if we don’t turn up, that’s the only way they win," Murphy said.
City are undefeated at home this season, recording wins against Brisbane City and SWQ Thunder at Sports Super Centre.
Murphy believes home field advantage will give his side the edge in Saturday’s clash.
“It is good, the home field advantage, we’re used to it, we train there three times a week, so it does make a difference,” Murphy concluded.
In a boost for City midfielder Nik Mirkovic has returned to the match day squad after recovering from an injury sustained against FNQ Heat.
A win over Strikers will see City at least temporarily claim top spot on the PlayStation NPL Queensland table.
