Gold Coast City goalkeeper Ryan Meskell says his side are looking for a good result their first home game of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues season.
Gold Coast City square off with Brisbane City at the Sports Super Centre on Saturday as they look to improve on last week's injury time defeat at the hands of FNQ Heat in Cairns.
Meskell said his team will be looking to ‘bounce back’ from the loss with a positive result in a match colloquially known as "The Battle of the Cities".
“We’re looking to move on from last week and bounce back with a good result on the weekend,” Meskell explained.
“The boys are excited to be playing at home for the first time, hopefully we can get a good result to get the balling rolling for the rest of the season.”
Meskell couldn’t fault his teammates efforts in torrential conditions last week, but stated the need for them to maintain focus after twice conceding moments after scoring in the 3-2 loss to Heat
“The effort was there in very tough conditions,” Meskell explained.
“(But) we need to focus on trying to make sure that once we score a goal, we don’t switch off and let them straight back in the game.”
Brisbane City are coached by Socceroos legend John Kosmina and started their season with a 4-1 home victory over SWQ Thunder last weekend.
However, while Meskell expects Brisbane City to provide a stern test, he says spirits are high in the Gold Coast camp.
“I know they’ve always been a good team in the NPL, they had a good result on the weekend, it’s not going to be an easy game.”
“Trainings been good, everyone’s been in good spirits. Everyone’s really keen to get out there and put the right foot forward,” he concluded.
Winger Nik Mirkovic, who picked up an injury in last week's match against Heat, is the only absentee in what is an otherwise full strength squad for Gold Coast City.
In other news defender Tim Jackson has departed the club due to work commitments.
