Gold Coast City fullback Matthew Schmidt says confidence is high amongst his teammates ahead of Saturday’s clash with South West Queensland Thunder.
The PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland league leaders travel to Toowoomba looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 17 matches.
SWQ Thunder currently sit 10th on the PS4 NPL Queensland ladder with just three wins to their name.
Thunder will be buoyed by a good recent run of results which includes wins over Brisbane City and Sunshine Coast in their last two outings.
City fullback Matthew Schmidt says his side are confident and focused ahead of Saturday’s match.
“We’re very positive going into this week’s game, as a team we’re doing really well at the moment.”
“Training this week’s been spot on, everyone’s been there in terms of quality and attitude, that’s the main thing going into this game.”
“As long as we stick to our structures and stick to what we’ve been doing for basically the whole season then we’re going to do well and get the result.”
Saturday will mark the third occasion that City and Thunder have met this season.
City won 2-0 at Sports Super Centre in round four PS4 NPL Queensland action before leaving Clive Berghofer Stadium with a 4-0 Westfield FFA Cup win in May.
Schmidt said that despite previous results City would not be taking their opponents lightly.
“We try not to dwell on past results, they’ve changed formation, they’ve had a new coach come in, they’ve got a good few results over the past few weeks, we’re not going in overconfident.”
“They’re going to fight for the full 90 minutes and they’re going to try and play a bit of football.”
“The way they’ve been playing as of late has been quite defensive so they’re going to be a tough team to break down on the weekend but I think with our quality up front to do it.”
A win for City will see them maintain their five point lead at the top of the PlayStation National Premier Leagues Queensland table.
