Gold Coast City Assistant Coach Mal Sharman said his side’s quality in attack made the difference in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Western Pride at Duncan Mckenna Field.
City returned to the PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s winners circle with Jayde Lowe’s first half strike proving the difference between the two sides.
The defining moment of the match came in the 38th minute when midfielder Lowe pounced on a bouncing ball on the edge of the area and delicately chipped Pride keeper Kirsten Veeren to give City the lead.
Despite several chances for both sides in the second half neither was able to add to the scoring as City secured a valuable three points.
Speaking post-match, Gold Coast City assistant coach Mal Sharman said while he was pleased to get the win there were areas of his sides performance that needed improving.
“We got a win which is a good thing, but our performance wasn’t the best, we let Pride play rather than imposing our own game.”
“We’ll definitely want to build on this win, three points is three points we’ll take it anytime we get it and if that’s the worst performance of our season then we’ll take that,” Sharman said.
The win which is City’s third of the season keeps them in 7th position as they look to push further up the PS4 NPL Women’s Queensland table.
Sharman praised his sides quality in attack but felt that there were other areas of his team’s play that need work.
“Going forward we were better, our transitions were good, but there’s things to work on still.”
“Ena Tsuzumi had a good game, Jayde Lowe had a good game, they played well in their positions and pulled us up.”
“Our possession game needs some work and we’re working on that in training as well our shape as a team,” Sharman said.
“With players playing in new positions it’s always something that they need to get used to.”
City’s attention now turns to next Sunday’s home clash with UQFC.
