Gold Coast City defender Joy Forsyth says her side are determined to turn things around following Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Peninsula Power.
City suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as the PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s Queensland league leaders ran away with a 7-0 victory at Duncan Mckenna Field.
Striker Kelly Jenks lead the way for the visitors with a hat-trick, midfielder Alexandra Schaefer bagged a brace while Brooke Barbuto and Sarah Elnicky both netted a goal each.
The result see’s Power continue their dominant start to the PlayStation 4 NPL Women’s Queensland season having won all seven of their games to date.
Speaking post-match, City defender Forsyth said things simply didn’t go to plan for her side.
“I think our confidence from the start wasn’t there. Peninsula Power were getting to the ball first, their tackles were harder, we just weren’t matching them for effort really,” Forsyth said.
“Our tackles weren’t hard enough especially in midfield and upfront, there was no talk and we just didn’t gel tonight.”
“With them being top of the table our heads weren’t really in it at the start.”
Despite the defeat City remain sixth on the league table and have the opportunity to push on with upcoming matches against lower ranked sides in the next two weeks.
Forsyth said her side had learnt some valuable lessons ahead of Friday’s trip to ninth place Brisbane Olympic.
“We’ve got to put in at training, (The coach is) talking about tackling harder and putting the effort in so hopefully we can bring that to our game starting on Friday.”
“We need to start off confident, Olympic haven’t been doing too well this season hopefully we can get a win.”
“We’ve got to really implement what we do at training and execute it in Friday’s game," she concluded.
City’s focus now turns to collecting three points against Brisbane Olympic on Friday night at Goodwin Park.
