Gold Coast City fullback Jaiden Walker says Sunday’s clash with Brisbane Olympic is do-or-die for his side in their quest for the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Premiership title.
League leaders City travel to Goodwin Park for a top-of-the-table-clash with third-placed Olympic, with a win for City able to end Olympic's fading hopes of a Premiership title.
City come into the match on a high following Wednesday’s win over Western Australian outfit Western Knight’s that sees them into the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16.
City fullback Jaiden Walker poured cold water on any speculation that Wednesday’s match would prove a distraction for his side saying they are fully focused on winning the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Premiers title.
"It’s the biggest week of our season so far, to get through to the round of 16 in the FFA Cup is a big moment and also to be playing such a crucial match on Sunday as well.”
“I think the boys are just professional enough to look past Wednesday’s match, we got the win but now so we’ve shifted our focus back to the NPL,” Walker said.
“I think Grae’s got us back on track as well, he keeps us pretty grounded with all that sort of stuff but at the end of the day we want to win the league and make the final as well.”
“Winning the NPL was priority number one at the beginning of the year, the way we’re going now I don’t think any of the boys would accept anything less than the title.”
Sunday’s match is the second time City have met Olympic this season, with City running out 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture.
Walker heaped praised on his attacking teammates ahead of Sunday's clash, describing the side's front third key to earning a result.
“We have a good forward line in Jarrod, Sam, Riley, Benji and Nik, if we take our chances we’ll go a long way to winning the game.”
“An individual performance like Jarrod’s on Wednesday definitely gives us confident and sets the tone for the rest of and makes us want to follow in his footsteps.”
“Sunday is do-or-die for us there’s only three games left and this is probably the biggest,” Walker concluded.
Sunday’s match will be live-streamed via the Football Queensland Facebook page.
