Gold Coast City defender Martin Vazquez says his side is looking to return to winning ways with a victory over Redlands United at Duncan Mckenna Field on Saturday.
PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland ladder leaders City are looking to bounce back from last week’s last gasp defeat at the hands of Brisbane Strikers.
City remain top despite the defeat but have had their lead at the top of table cut to just two points.
Redlands currently sit 11th on the league table with 12 points to their name after 15 matches.
City defender Vazquez said his side are in positive spirits ahead of Saturday’s game.
“Obviously everyone’s disappointed that we didn’t get at least a point out of the Strikers game, but everyone’s positive and keeping their heads held high,” Vazquez said.
“After a loss you’re not going to put your head down, there’s still a few games to go, we’re still on top of the table and after the loss everyone’s pretty motivated.”
“Our main focus is to win the league, but we’ll just take things one game at a time.”
City and Redlands have previously met once this season when they played out a 1-1 draw at Cleveland Showgrounds in round six.
Redlands have proved to be a tricky opponent for City in recent years, with City not having beaten them since 2015.
Vazquez is expecting Redlands to provide a stern test for his side.
“We haven’t beat Redlands for a couple of years now, they’re always strong against us, I don’t know what it is they just pump up against us.”
“It doesn’t mean anything where they’re sitting on the table at the moment, they’re always a strong team to compete against, they’ve got quality all around the park.”
“We’ve got to stay disciplined and focused for the whole 90 minutes, not just for half or patches of the game, until the final whistle.”
A win for City will see them maintain a two point lead at the top of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland Ladder.
