Gold Coast City captain Justyn Mckay says the mood in the City camp is positive ahead of Saturday’s clash with Northern Fury.
PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland ladder leaders City are chasing their second straight win when they host Townsville-based Fury at Duncan Mckenna Field.
City currently sit top of the league standings, two points ahead of second placed Brisbane Strikers after 17 rounds of competition.
Fury occupy eighth position in the 12-team league, with 19 points to their name.
Mckay said City are in high spirits as they come into the final run of matches chasing the league title.
“We’ve got five league games left but potentially we’ve got 10-11 games with finals, FFA Cup, possibly national finals to plays, morale’s up and the groups buzzing hopefully we can keep pushing on.”
“It was really disappointing to lose to Strikers but it was good to bounce back last week so everything’s positive again and we’re looking forward to the final games of the season,” Mckay said.
City and Fury have already met once this season in Townsville when a Jarrod Kyle brace separated the sides in a 2-0 win for City.
City have a strong record against Fury only having lost once in the previous nine meetings between the two sides.
Mckay is confident ahead of facing off with what he’s described as an ‘enthusiastic’ Fury side.
“They’re always fairly well organised, young, enthusiastic, we’re going to have to be on our game to get the win,” Mckay said.
“I think the most important thing is the overall team performance, how well we’ve improved has been nice even in the big games where there are a few nerves around we’ve performed really well.”
In transfer news Rhys Saunders, Curtis Stollery and Austin Ludwik have all departed City ahead of moves to College Soccer in the US.
Saunders is returning to Lewis and Clark College in Oregon, while Stollery and Ludwik head to Gannon in Pennsylvania.
Gold Coast City would like to thank all three for their contribution to the club an wish them all the best for the future.
