Gold Coast City Football Club is delighted to confirm that it has been successful in securing a Skills Acquisition Phase (SAP) program licence for the next five years.
Successful licencees were announced on Wednesday by Football Queensland, with a total of 25 clubs across the state to roll out the programs.
City will deliver the SAP program for boys in the Under 9, Under 10, Under 11 and Under 12 age groups under the terms of the licence.
SAP is a key component of Football Federation Australia’s National Curriculum, designed to accelerate the skill development of identified players between the critical ages of 9 to 13.
Combined with City’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues licence and the club’s exclusive regional partnership to deliver the Brisbane Roar Academy Preparation Centre, the club now provides the strongest pathway on the Gold Coast for junior boys.
City Technical Director Jason Buchanan said today’s announcement was warmly welcomed by all at the club.
“The SAP program is important to developing and preparing players for the NPL junior programs and beyond.”
“It is a crucial part of player development under the National Curriculum and integral to the talented player pathway at our club.”
“We delighted that our previous efforts with over recent years in SAP have been recognised by Football Queensland for the next period of licences.”
An exciting new feature of the SAP program during the next licence period is the implementation of weekly fixtures for SAP program teams (replacing the previous fortnightly fixtures schedule).
Football Queensland SAP Trainer Dean Simpkins stated on the Football Queensland website that the introduction of regular quality matches will help prepare players for the next step in their footballing development.
“Weekly games give players a chance to use the skills they learn in training in a practical situation, which is hugely important when it comes to developing decision making and skill,” Simpkins said.
Details on Gold Coast City SAP program trials will be provided in coming weeks.
