Gold Coast City have completed their pre-season preparations and are raring to go ahead of next weekend's PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women's kick off.
Pre-season results were typically mixed for City as they tested a number of combinations and refined their approach for the season ahead.
Throughout the pre-season City played a variety of opposition ranging from the likes of Peninsula Power and Logan LIghtning in the Pink Boot to touring Chinese side Shandong Province.
Returning for City in 2017 are several stand-out performers from last season including captain Jamilla Riley, defender Joy Forsyth, attack-minded midfielder Jayde Lowe and leading goalscorer Steph Foreman.
Coach Dave Thompson is pleased with his side's progress throughout the pre-season.
“We’ve had a fairly strong pre-season, we’ve played eight games,” Thompson said.
"We've had a number of changes, the players are starting to get a bit of an understanding with one another."
“Now we’re just working on getting ready for the season proper.”
Thompson is optimistic about his side's chances and is aiming for a top four finish this season after finishing 2016 in seventh place.
“We know we’ll do better than last year, we’re trying to push to get into that four to break into the Finals Series at the end of the year,” he said.
“The girls are being very positive and want to go in there and really give it a go.”
Thompson says fans should also expect his side to play an exciting brand of football this season.
“We’ll try and make it exciting to watch because that sort of game is exciting for the girls to play, so its always good to watch as well.”
“We’ll try and play our own game and move the ball quickly and get involved in a lot of combination play,” Thompson concluded.
All matches of the opening round of the PlayStation 4 NPL Women's Queensland competition will be played at A.J. Kelly Park as part of Female Football Week, with City facing off against UQFC.
