Gold Coast City striker and league leading goal scorer Sam Smith has been selected for the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland 2017 Team of the Season.
The 27-year-old Englishman smashed in 22 goals in as many appearances in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues this season and was the only City player selected in the eleven-player squad announced by Football Queensland.
The team was selected by Football Queensland based on submissions from Club Media Managers and match referees throughout the 2017 home-and-away season.
Smith said he was honoured to be recognised, however, was quick to add that his selection was due in large part to the contributions of his teammates.
“To be recognised in this way is very pleasing and I’m happy with how things have gone this season for me personally,” Smith said.
“At the same time though, for there not to be any of the other Gold Coast City boys in that team is something I find quite incredible to be honest.”
“I definitely couldn’t have scored those goals without them and, despite being gutted that we didn’t win the title, we achieved a lot together this year.”
In addition to his role in the league, Smith has been a major contributor to City’s stunning run to the Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Final stage.
