Management of Gold Coast City FC wishes to respond to rumours surrounding the club’s participation in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues.
It has come to the attention of Gold Coast City FC management that parties external to the club are seeking to undermine confidence in Gold Coast City FC’s future participation in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues.
These rumours include suggestions that the club’s participation licence will be taken over by another entity after this season.
This is categorically untrue.
Gold Coast City FC reassures all players, parents and supporters that it is committed to its participation in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues for this season and beyond.
Further, Gold Coast City FC clearly refute suggestions that the future of its participation in the competition has been determined at this time.
All current PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues participation licences in Queensland will conclude their initial five-year period at the end of the 2017 season. We acknowledge that this includes Gold Coast City FC.
However, the club has taken the necessary steps to seek a new participation licence in accordance with the requirements and processes of Football Queensland.
Applications for the next licence period were due at the end of February and Palm Beach Soccer Club, owners of the Gold Coast City FC brand, submitted an application as part of this process.
Contrary to some suggestions, this application has been made under the same terms as recent seasons, playing under the name Gold Coast City FC.
As part of the submission process, Gold Coast City FC understands it will be notified of the outcome of its application by Football Queensland at the end of April.
A public statement announcing the successful applicants will be made by Football Queensland at a date to be determined.
At this time, Gold Coast City FC will welcome additional Gold Coast based clubs should they be successful in seeking to join the expanded competition in 2018 and beyond. The club does this in the spirit of fair play and fair competition that defines our great game.
However, Gold Coast City FC will not allow rumour to go unchallenged in relation to the club and is seeking legal counsel on this matter.
Rumour-mongering and unfounded conjecture only serve to undermine the strength of our game and stymy its development, not only on the Gold Coast, but across Australia.
Gold Coast City is determined to be part of a bright future for football in this country.
